The City of Brandon and the BGMA are located on Treaty 2 territory on the shared lands of the Dakota, Cree, Dene, Anishinaabeg, Anishininew, and it is on the homeland of the Red River M\u00e9tis nation.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Brandon General Museum & Archives<\/strong> was formed in 2007 by the City of Brandon, Manitoba. The museum officially opened on July 15th, 2011, after much support from the city and community.<\/p>\n

Today we are governed by a board of directors, made up of three City Councillors, and community members. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching downtown and showcasing this city’s valuable history. Our mission is to collect, conserve, study, exhibit and interpret historic and heritage materials relating to the City of Brandon and its place within the history of Southwestern Manitoba.<\/p>\n

We are currently located in the original Manitoba Government Services (now known as BellMTS) building in downtown Brandon on 9th Street across from the historic A.E. McKenzie Seeds block. We are surrounded by local history and are also home to the B. J. Hales Natural History Collection, a taxidermy collection featuring Manitoba fauna.<\/p>\n

The City of Brandon, along with the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba<\/strong><\/a>, Western Manitoba Regional Library<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and BGMA<\/strong><\/span> are working toward a new Cultural Hub building downtown, for more information, click here<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n
